What’s a library advocate, you ask? The answer: anyone that connects with their public library and tells other people to get connected too! How do I become a library advocate? Not sure where to start? First step, visit the library to get a Gardiner Library card. In five minutes, you’ll get access to over 2 million books, over 1.5 million eBooks, 300,000 movies and so much more. All for free! Second step, sign up for the library’s weekly e-newsletter (done when you fill out a card registration form) to stay up-to-date on events, programs, resources and more. Third step, attend a program. Connect with staff. Give us feedback. Volunteer and tell everyone you know to get involved too. And if that isn’t enough for you (volunteering can be once a year to once a week), join our new Advocacy Committee, tasked with developing a long-term service plan based on community input, developing ways to promote our library services and resources, expanding visibility and connection in Gardiner, increasing the number of library cardholders and advocating for continued library funding at the state level (read about the “Build America’s Libraries Act’’). Over the past year we have adapted to many changes and you have supported and encouraged us every step of the way. The Gardiner Library is our library. The Gardiner Library should reflect our community’s needs, and each of you has the power to help make that happen. We can’t wait to see you!
